Impulse - An Endless Sporadic - bang awning - GH3 Guitar Hero III

This piece was recorded March 2008 at Denton High School in Denton, TX, while I was the percussion instructor there. This song is just plain flat-out awesomeness. If anybody has known me for the past 2 years, they know I'm an obsessive Guitar Hero player, and that's how I discovered this piece, Impulse, by two badass musicians who call themselves An Endless Sporadic. You can check them out on MySpace, but they haven't been signed or released an official album yet. One of them works for Neversoft, the drummer Andy, and he got their song in the game Guitar Hero 3 as a bonus song. Once I heard it, I knew I had to arrange it someday. It was a challenge to get the marimbas and vibes to work in the original key, since some of the guitar parts are so low, but I don't like changing keys in my arrangements, so luckily we had two 5 octave marimbas and some mics to help on the low end. I gave my best shot at playing the crazy drumset part with a single bass drum pedal, but the real key was hiring the amazing Chris McQueen to play the guitar part. He plays with Oso Closo and Snarky Puppy (from Denton) and you should check them out too, they will rock your face off. This piece was fun to do as a percussion ensemble because in the original they used ProTools and had already added all of the small percussion instruments you'll hear, so I didn't need to add anything. I did cut out an entire chunk of the piece in the middle, because it would have been impossible to recreate all the crazy ...

Kanye West - Stonger (Drum and Guitar cover)

Drums - Anson Lau Guitar - Jeff Tang Audio is not that great. My "drum attempt" on Stronger, which is pretty sloppy cause I nailed it in 30 minutes. I'm also not a professional video editor or some sort, so you can't see all my drumset or the guitar, but it's ok! Enjoy! *If you want the mp3 of this version of the song, www.sendspace.com

Sweating Bullets (Guitar Hero 5 Expert + Drums Sightread)

First things first. I know I'm not the best Rock Band/Guitar Hero drummer in the world and I'm not trying to be. I'm just uploading my videos for friends and family to view so please leave the "you suck" comments at the door. Having said that, I just bought a Hauppauge HD PVR and I was really itching to try it out. Most, if not all, of the videos that I'll be uploading will be in HD. Some people will have problems viewing videos in HD due to older/slower computers. If the videos seem to be choppy or laggy then this is most likely your problem. Some of the common questions I'm expecting to get are: Question: What type of drum kit are you using? Answer: I'm using an ION Drum Rocker. Question: What type of bass pedal are you using? Answer: I'm using a Roland KD-8 kick trigger and a kickbox. Question: Do you play real drums? Answer: No. I've never touched a set of drums in my life until I started playing Rock Band. Question: How did you get a gold drum icon Answer: You get a gold icon for finishing the ESL (Endless Set List) on hard. You get a platinum for finishing expert and an inverted icon for finishing on medium. Question: Which system do you play on? Answer: I play Rock Band on my 360, however, I do own a PS3 too. Question: What's your gamer tag? Answer: Whetzel (on both systems) Thanks for watching and if you would like to you can subscribe because I plan on uploading more videos as I get time. Some videos will be fc's, some will be Gold Stars and some will probably ...

The Top 10 Reasons Why You Suck At Playing Guitar

Image : http://www.flickr.com

You don't 'need' to play guitar enough.

If you desire to become a great guitarist, you have to want it badly enough to sacrifice other parts of your life to devote to practice.

This doesn't mean you have to give up your social life and never take the guitar out of your hands until your Jimi Hendrix...

But it does mean you need to set aside time to practice and commit to actually it.

If you really want to learn guitar then you shouldn't feel the need to put it off till later to make time for some television!

You have limiting beliefs about your ability.

Believe it or not, many people have hidden limiting beliefs which stop them from progressing into the guitarists they want to be.

Do your friends/spouse/parents knock you and think you're wasting your time?
Don't let anyone put you off from doing something that's important to you.

Even the greatest players had to start somewhere! There is no such thing as 'natural ability'. Nobody was born playing guitar, they had to learn too. So don't be hard on yourself if you can't play as well as you'd like just yet - and don't let anyone stop you from trying.

Don't listen to anyone's negativity!

You don't know how to practice.

Practice just isn't as simple as you have been led to believe. Many people just get their guitar and run through some exercises, a song, or a guitar tab the same way they have done it hundreds of times before, and they just aren't getting any benefit or improvement from doing that. So you need to know how to practice effectively.

You don't put enough time aside for practice.

If you want to get really good on guitar, then you need to be setting a side a set period of time each day or each week for practice.

It's okay to vary it from week to week if you like, but you have to commit to actually practicing regularly otherwise it's going to take you much more time to improve.

You don't set goals.

It's important to have some kind of goal in your practice. How can you get anywhere without first knowing where you're going? By setting yourself targets to aim for in your practice, you will get their much faster.

You Don't focus on one thing at a Time.

You need to have some focus when you practice. You need to be aware of what you're trying to do, and not trying to learn too many things at once.

Many people try to learn too many songs, too many tabs, or too many guitar method books all at the same time and suffer from information overload.

How many songs can you play a part of, but not the whole thing? You need to focus on one thing at a time!

You Don't Play Slowly Enough At First

It's important not to just play something as fast as possible, or as fast as you have heard some other guy play it on the radio. You need to take things slow - and play slowly enough so you don't keep making mistakes.

You Try To Learn Things You Aren't Ready For

It's important that you know you're capabilities. This isn't to say you shouldn't strive to improve, but you must remember to start at the beginning.

You can't take any short-cuts without having to pay for it in the long-run.

You're Taking Lessons From Someone Who Can't Teach

You may have a friend who can play guitar, or some guy down the road used to give lessons 25 years ago - but just because someone can play guitar, doesn't actually mean they have the skills to teach guitar.

The two things are actually very different. And if you're not learning from someone who knows how to teach, you could be causing yourself more problems than your solving by having lessons from this person.

You Don't Have A Good Guitar

You don't need to break the bank by getting that $1000 guitar just yet, but you at least need a fairly decent guitar that will inspire you to pick it up and play it!

Many of the cheap starter packs for beginners just aren't up to scratch, and cause many budding guitar players to give up in frustration without giving it a fair chance.

Review of Composite Acoustics Bluegrass Guitar (8LB)

Image : http://www.flickr.com

CA Guitars (a.k.a., Composite Acoustics) produces incredible dreadnought guitars. Model 8LB is unique among carbon fiber guitars. Specially designed for bluegrass music, the CA 8LB provides what bluegrass guitar pickers seek -- a dreadnought guitar with a deep, warm, somewhat punchy (yet not too punchy) bass that does not overwhelm the mids, along with singing highs.

The first thing that you may notice upon playing this guitar is the resonance. As with a lot of carbon fiber guitars, the resonance is booming and seems to come straight out from the soundhole in a floating cylinder of sound. My favorite part of the 8LB, though, is the control a picker has. Especially, I can strum a full and resonant chord, but immediately pick out individual notes that come through clearly. Most noticeably, during rhythm, I like to jump my fingers along the mids between chord changes - hammering on/off, sliding, and bending notes away -- and the mids come through fully during those chord changes, preceded and followed by chords that you can make either booming and resonant, or smooth and mellow.

Bluegrass guitar virtuoso Tim Stafford plays a CA Guitars Model 8LB and said the following about the instrument: "I was recently backstage at the IBMA Awards with my Composite Acoustics getting ready to go on, and Tony Rice asked me to play the guitar a bit for Del McCoury - both true legends of Bluegrass music. Tony said: "Listen to that. Isn't it something? It sounds incredible!" Del just grinned and agreed. But these comments are nothing new."

Guitar Lessons Chords - Learn Everything From Beginner to Advanced Chord Progressions Online

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are many young guitar players that commonly try to accomplish a little bit too much all at once and often disregard beginner guitar lesson chords and scales. However, what many of these players do not realize is how much these lessons can help you build technique and increase your overall ability to develop as a guitarist. Below we will walk you through some of the aspects of these lessons that can be so beneficial.

In order to build finger strength and overall dexterity, it's extremely important to practice with the help of exercises. Sure learning your favorite song will allow you to learn a few new chords or a riff, but utilizing a variety of different warm up and practice exercises designed to increase dexterity is a must. It's also quite common for players to learn chords through learning songs and not really know much about them. This is precisely where guitar lesson chords come in handy.

Developing the ability to play and write with your guitar fluidly is one that requires more than simply an understanding of a chords shape. In order to increase your overall ability when improvising, writing, or jamming you must increase your understanding of chord structures. Beginner and intermediate guitar lessons chords will give you a basic to build from and expand your knowledge.

Perhaps the most notable reason of all of learning guitar lessons chords through tabs or other interactive lessons is the ability to avoid learning bad habits early on. One of the biggest problems that a lot of guitarists have when trying to advance their playing is being held back by old bad habits they developed through not taking proper lessons. These can come in the shape of many issues from picking problems to chord changes. One of the most common issues is players that have developed odd ways of playing chords that are considered unconventional. While the fingering of any given chord might have worked for the player at one time, learning new chords or scales might prove to be a lot more difficult as they are not designed for someone who plays the way he does. This is why developing good habits for the way you play early on will most likely save you a lot of frustration when trying to advance your skill set even further in the future.

Another great reason why all players should be learning guitar lessons chords and scales is simply for practice. Commonly sticking to learning the same songs from one or two of your favorite bands or genres will not give your playing the depth that comes from traditional lessons. All great guitarists have learned many different techniques that span genres and generations and never limit themselves. You may not realize how learning jazz and blues chords will help you write songs now, but you will not know how you could live without them once you do.
